Purkinje cells are a type of neuron in the brain’s cerebellar cortex. These neurons extend through the cortex layers integrating information involved in cognition and emotion. You may be familiar with Santiago Ramón y Cajal‘s famous drawings of these cells, shown below. I was inspired by Ramon y Cajal’s drawings which illustrates his finding that the brain is made up of individual neurons in 1899.
